Dead Root Revival has a bunch of fun shows around Ontario in September and October.  I'm particularly looking forward to this meal...er, this show next week! 

However, I may get my dinner to go. There's nothing like finishing an all-you-can-eat Indian buffet a half hour before you perform an opening set for The JD Edwards Band at the Times Change(d) in Winnipeg to teach you to not eat too much before you go on stage. I carry this lesson from the road with me to this very day(even though it's Bhuna long time 😄😅🥁).

Weddings, Barmitzvahs, House concerts....

I'm currently booking a Canadian tour for the fall and I am looking to enlist some help in securing venues for performances in various cities/towns. If you are interested, or if you know of anyone who would be interested, in hosting me for a house concert, or to perform at a coffeehouse, church basement, backyard BBQ, tailgate party in a parking lot, sports bar wing night, old-tyme saloon, wedding, funeral, Barmitzvah, birthday party, book club, songwriters circle, etc., etc., please do let me know. And let your friends know. And let me know that your friends now know what you know.

It would be very much appreciated. This is my first solo tour in quite some time, and I am seeking out different types of venues to perform in. With TST,  we had a pretty good circuit going, but it was quite dependent on "bringing the noise" for the most part, so a lot of those venues won't be appropriate for the show I will be touring.

We are in the process of recording my new solo album right now. They are a fine collection of songs, and I am really excited about the outcome of this work. To be honest, it's the most jazzed I've been about a creative project in a long time. I think it's going to be something special and I can't wait to get out on the road and share it with all of you this September.

As Kevin Davidson and I prepare to host our first open mic tonight at The Stonewater Gastro Pub & Cafe since the change in format in January, I think it is important to publicly acknowledge Kevin's years of service as host ( because I don't think it has yet been done), and his part in building the Thursday night open mic into an important community event as well as the pub's most consistently profitable evening.

It's his warm personality, generosity, and encouragement that has convinced many a musician to share their talents on that small stage. So thanks Kevin for helping to create such a welcoming environment and making the Gananoque arts community richer.

I encourage the fine people of Gananoque and Kingston who have been to the Stonewater open mic over the years to come out tonight and say thanks to Kevin for being such an awesome host over the past decade!

Foley Mountain Playboys Gearing up to record their debut album

The jams were kicking at the Rose & Crown last night. A live rehearsal of sorts, for the FMP recording session coming up this weekend. Gotta say, I'm pretty pumped about the future possibilities of this band. Things are sounding super-tight, and I think it is going to be one helluva record.

Looking forward to getting this record in the can, and getting out to play some shows for you fine folks. Toe-tappin', foot-stompin', heartbreakin', hard-drinkin', dance floor fillin' music.

Johnny Cash, a.k.a. The Man in Black, would have turned 80 on February 26. As one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century, we felt there was no better time to pay tribute to his amazing legacy, which includes being inducted into the Country Hall of Fame, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Gospel Hall of Fame. Four of Kingston’s most talented folk and country acts will each play a short set of songs from his amazing 48 year career.

The Joe Chithalen Musical Instrument Lending Library (Joe’s MILL) is a registered charity operating in Kingston at 559 Bagot Street. Joe’s M.I.L.L. currently has over 450 items available to borrow and enjoy, including guitars, keyboards, drums, horns, violins, percussion, exotic instruments, and much more - and just like a regular library, it's all free! Our lending and teaching programs sustain music appreciation, knowledge, community enrichment and provide opportunities for youth and adults to meet their full potential.

An interesting Friday night

This past Friday, as we were preparing to depart for our show at the Elmdale House Tavern in Ottawa, we suddenly ran into some difficulties. We had just finished loading Joey's drums into the van, when I walked around front , and saw green fluid all over the driveway. I said to Geoff, " This isn't from your car, is it ?,"to which he replied, "No, it can't be...oh wait...it is."

It turned out that the clamp holding the hose on the rad had broken off, and all that precious coolant went drifting down the driveway. Thankfully, Joe's brother-in-law Morgan, was there to help out. He drove us over to Canadian Tire to get a new clamp in his weird yellow VW car ( that was really cool). He also put the new clamp on for us. Thanks Morgan!

By this time, it was about 6:45, and the show was to start at 9:00 P.M. So time was a little tight. So we went and grabbed some fast food and hit the highway. We had just past the division street exit( for all you Kingstonians ) when we hear someone madly honking their horn at us. It turned out, that in all of the excitement over the rad leaking, Geoff had forgotten to lock the rooftop carrier( which Joey's drums were being transported in). Another sigh of relief on that one.


So, we make pretty good time, and get to the gig by 8:30 P.M., and start to set up. The owner of the bar comes up to Geoff and Joe while they're setting up, and says to them, ' So, you guys need you're own door person tonight(to collect the cover charge).' Now , this is not unheard of, but usually the venue will make some mention of it before the gig. It turns out, they had just forgotten to send me their standard policy email. But, after what we had just gone through, it was kind of like icing on the cake.

Fortunately, my friend Nick was at the show, so I enlisted him and his friends to work the door.Thanks Nick, Erika, and Brenda. You did a great job!

After all was said and done, it turned out to be a great time. The Elmdale House has a nice retro feel to it. Cool place to play.
