Foley Mountain Playboys in Westport!

This Sunday ( June 1st) The Foley Mountain Playboys will be heading to The Cove in Westport, Ontario to perform at the Sunday Roots Matinee, from 1-4 PM. We hope you'll take the drive out to Westport and join us for what is sure to be a foot-stompin', rip-roarin' afternoon of good 'ol country music. Most of this music is new and original, but everywhere we play folks remark on the timeless sound of the music, and how the songs could've been written by Willie, Merle, or Hank. And to that, we say thank you very much! That is what we are going for.

Day Of The Pig / Night Of The Toucan

The numbers have yet to come in, but by the turnout on Saturday, it looks one of the best years yet for Homegrown Live. Great to see! Good job Kingston!

I dare say that the Foley Mountain Playboys made our share of new fans on Saturday night at the Royal Tavern. We pumped out  a 2 hour set and the crowd was begging for more. Yeehaw! It was a great way to celebrate one year together as a band.

And the cool gigs keep on coming for the FMP. In fact, on Saturday May 17th, you have not one, but two great opportunities to check out the band. In the afternoon, we are playing at Seed-To-Sausage for their Day Of The Pig celebration with Kyra & Tully and The Huaraches.

Beer. Sausage. Music. Sun. Fun!!

Then, in the evening the Foley Mountain Playboys are heading back to Kingston to lay down our country music jams at the Toucan. Sharing the bill with us is our good friend from Winnipeg, JD Edwards, who is touring with another talented singer-songwriter, Faye Blais.

That's a full day of music right there Folks! Hope to see you out !

Homegrown Live 2014 - HomeGrown Hootenanny at The Royal Tavern

Tom Savage will be leading his Foley Mountain Playboys into The Royal Tavern to host the HomeGrown Hootenanny for the second consecutive year. Last year's Homegrown Live was also the first official gig of The Foley Mountain Playboys, so come on out and give us a high five (album is dragging its feet, but it's coming!) For those of you who don't know, Homegrown Live is a fundraiser for Joe's M.I.L.L (music instrument lending library), which is a great organization that helps spread the joy of learning  and playing a musical instrument around the fine city of Kingston.

The Sellaband Saga : the Crowdfunding Campaign Conundrum Continues...

We had a bump in the road, but I'm back with a new profile, new incentives, and a new drive to get this thing wrapped up so we can get on with finishing the record.

The contest was a great way to introduce our music to some new fans, and we are really excited to complete the FMP record and get it out to all y'all. Keep up with all the news about the band on twitter @FMPlayboys 

The FMP album is one of TWO albums I'll be releasing this year. The Foley Mountain Playboys record is straight-up Country, while my solo record will have elements of Country, but also a folk-rock, singer-songwriter vibe. If you liked my last (studio) solo record, Never Shed No Tears, I think you'll enjoy this one. It'll be a musical sequel of sorts. A continuation and development of themes if you will.

We started tracking my new solo album this weekend, and the sounds are tasty. I've got a crowdfunding campaign going for the solo record, and if you make a contribution, you will receive a hard copy of my new album as well as a digital copy of the new FMP record. CBC Searchlight : Surf on over and vote for "Couch Surfin"

With the debut album from the Foley Mountain Playboys coming out this spring, we thought we'd throw our hat into the ring for this year's CBC Music Searchlight competition, to hopefully create some advance buzz about the album.

I don't think there is a hope in hell a country song will win this contest, but I hope you guys will prove me wrong, because it would be an outstanding thing! It would give recognition to a whole scene that is largely ignored by the CBC, or any other radio for that matter, with the exception of  community and university radio, and stations like CKUA in Alberta. And no, I am not talking about Pop-Country. That genre is well represented in the mainstream.

It seems like everyone in Canada and their dog is in this contest, so we won't be inundating you with "vote for us" posts, but we would appreciate your support. Apparently you can vote up to 10 times a day,  so if you're into it, vote a bunch! Sharing this very blog post would be helpful as well.

To the other bands competing in the contest, if you vote for us, we will vote for you. Just tweet to us @FMPlayboys with your links (after you vote for us), or post them on the Tom Savage Music Facebook page,  and we will head on over and vote for you. Couch By Couchwest 2014

I wasn't sure if I was going to find time to get a video submitted to this year's Couch By Couchwest online music fest (or the anti-SXSW if you like) but I managed to get one in towards the tail end. I couldn't coordinate things in order to have Kevin and Richard with me this time, so it's just me on the couch this year, strumming on my 40 dollar Spanish guitar  that I purchased from the Kingston Flea Market ( I talked him down from $50).

The song I perform is called "I Just Want To Go To Bed", and you'll be able to find this tune on the upcoming Foley Mountain Playboys record.  It's a song about sitting in the motel room, after the show, towards the end of the tour. Your bandmates are drinking and carrying on, it's 5:00 AM, and you just want to go to bed. But you're really too overtired to sleep anyway. Ah, life on the road. Gotta love it!

First Listen : New Tracks From Debut Foley Mountain Playboys Album

Excited to share a couple of tracks from the upcoming debut album of The Foley Mountain Playboys. This project has been quite off-the-grid as far as any kind of web presence is concerned, so I put together a Reverbnation page and a twitter account ( @FMPlayboys)for the band today to bring us into the 21st Century. Come hang with us in cyber-countrymusicland folks. Looking at late spring to release the record. Stay tuned for a firm release date and CD release shows this summer.

We're really diggin' the ways these tracks are coming together. A nice live off the floor, down and dirty sound. Check them out and let us know what you think.

Foley Mountain Playboys - Seeking Postcards For Album Artwork

We're working on the album artwork for the upcoming FMP record, and are on the lookout for old postcards of Foley Mountain, preferably with a retro vibe to them. 60's or 70's.

Keep an eye open and let us know if you have any kicking around. Images of Westport are good as well, or photos taken from Spy Rock.

Post photos of the postcards on the Tom Savage Music Facebook Page and we'll have a look, and may end up using them.

2014 : The Year Of Creative Possibility

Incredibly excited about this next calendar year, for it will be filled with a multitude of creative projects for me. Since the creative surge that produced a string of albums, Never Shed No Tears (2006), TST's The County Line ( 2008), and Live @ The Acoustic Grill (2009), I have definitely dropped off in my frequency of releasing albums, with the Internet-only EP Living Room Session (2011), and the limited edition release of TST's Overdrive Express (2012). The latter two albums were very much less involved projects. They were experiments, in a way, of alternative methods of recording and releasing albums.

I think 2014 is the time to get back on that horse. I'm looking at the possibility of releasing three different albums with three different groups. In fact, the process has already begun, with our recording of the Foley Mountain Playboys last month. A great session that sounds really promising.  Also, we've had tracks for the Aldous Huxters record down for over a year. Will 2014 be the year when this project sees the light of day? I certainly hope so. A great collection of songs there that deserve to be heard. 

Last but not least, 2014 will also the release of my first (studio) solo record since 2006's Never Shed No Tears.

More on this project in the weeks to come.

Add my live show schedule to all of these projects, and one might think I've got too much on my plate, but I say, "Bring it on!!".

Currently fundraising for my solo album on Sellaband. From now until the end of December, I will personally match any contribution towards this project. i want to wrap this up so I can concentrate on the music.

FMP Session : A Country Music Locomotive Chuggin' On Down The Line

Fiddle player Kevin Davidson's country home, on the outskirts of The Outlet, was the perfect setting for us to lay down tracks for what will be the debut record of The Foley Mountain Playboys. Keeping it simple, we just set up all in one room and ran through the songs...well, maybe it wasn't quite that simple, but I'll spare you the technical details. Anyway, we are all excited about what we were hearing through the headphones, and can't wait to make these songs available to you.

Bonz wore a most appropriate shirt for the occasion.

The band has definitely developed a sound, and for what it lacks in subtlety, it makes up for in sheer locomotive force. Every musician is performing their function to keep the machine moving, and it's the most fun I've had banging on the ol' acoustic guitar.Yeehaw!!

Look out for this record to be released in March 2014.

Foley Mountain Playboys Gearing up to record their debut album

The jams were kicking at the Rose & Crown last night. A live rehearsal of sorts, for the FMP recording session coming up this weekend. Gotta say, I'm pretty pumped about the future possibilities of this band. Things are sounding super-tight, and I think it is going to be one helluva record.

Looking forward to getting this record in the can, and getting out to play some shows for you fine folks. Toe-tappin', foot-stompin', heartbreakin', hard-drinkin', dance floor fillin' music.

 First up this weekend, Kevin Davidson and I have a couple of acoustic duo shows you might want to check out. First up, we are at one of our favourite places, The Acoustic Grill in Picton, ON. Call ahead to reserve your seat. Show starts at 7:00 PM.

Then Saturday, we are at Cousin's On King in Gananoque. Good food. Good beer. Weekend. Sounds good to me.

50K Music interview

Had an opportunity to chat with 50K music magazine recently about my crowdfunding project on Sellaband. Still plugging away at raising money ( and awareness) about my project, so all you fans/friends/family/acquaintances/enemies/strangers spread the word!  In all seriousness, if you have an appreciation of the work I've put out over the years, here is your chance to get on board, and help me create something new.

This year has been all about transition for me artistically, and I'm excited about what the future holds. Not only for solo projects, but also with The Foley Mountain Playboys, and maybe even, at long last, the completion of the Aldous Huxters record.
