...And we're home.

Well, for the last week or two of the tour, a wi-fi connection was hard to come by, so the blog posts came to a screeching halt. We are home now, and there are plenty more stories to be added, so stay tuned. We'll also be adding photos, and video, to the facebook page.

I want to say a big "thank you " to all of those people who came out to the shows, the staff and sound techs at the venues, and the folks who booked us, for helping make the tour run so smoothly. It was almost like it worked out exactly as we planned!

It seemed like folks out west were, in the words of Grant Slavin, 'picking up what we were putting down'. Look forward to doing it again.

Cheers,

Tragedy averted!

There are better places than Canmore AB to find yourself with a blown wheel bearing in your trailer on a Saturday, but fortunately, it's good enough. The local Napa had the right part at a decent price, and some swearing and tool-smashing aside, the repair was relatively painless, especially compared to a shop, which probably would have meant replacing the axle and hub, killing the rest of the tour.

Having had a less-than-stellar-sounding show at the Canmore Hotel last tour, we're glad Grant the sound guy here at the Drake has a better handle on things and appreciation for our plight. His band played at the Rose & Crown in Banff the night after we did, in fact we were offered that night. The crowd was rather hooligan-ish, but having confidence about the sound takes a big load off.

Perhaps it's karma that I was given wrong directions to the Napa store and ended up at a thrift shop where I stumbled across a nice Swiss-made elliptical sharpening steel and a pair of classic Rega speakers for a grand total of $16! Just what I need... more speakers... but certain deals you don't pass up ;)

Lots of new pics on the Tom Savage Trio Facebook page, look'em up!

Soundtrack For Love

It's been a busy few days on tour. We've made stops in Golden and Lethbridge, and are currently finishing off a two night in Banff at the Rose and Crown. It's funny we're playing the Rose and Crown on a Wednesday ( i host an open mic at the Rose and Crown in Kingston on Wednesdays).

When we were playing our first set in Golden, I looked out in the audience and noticed a girl singing along with all the songs. (Naturally, being the household name I am I should be used to this ...) It turns out that her boyfriend had bought the demo version of the album when we were last out. Our show coincided with the beginning of their relationship, and the album had become "their" album. Pretty neat.

So, I gave them a copy of the newly packaged disc.

Lethbridge was cool. I was really impressed with the stage setup they had at the slice. Small but appreciative crowds in both cases. New fans and friends made.

Cheers,
Tom

More Shackage

Just adding to what Tom posted, the cover shack is on Alberta route 533, which runs between Vulcan and Nanton. What's really weird is that it is ruined beyond repair, the roof trusses literally fallen to the ground, but someone put wires between the walls to keep it from collapsing entirely, which it probably would have by now. I guess performance enhancements aren't unique to professional sports!

It's the Bionic Shack. "We have the technology, we can make it more useless, more wretched, for generations to come"

I guess that Vulcan Alberta is from the "alternate universe" endorsing the doctrine: Die long and suffer

We found the shack ! We found the shack !

When we set out on tour, we were determined to find the shack that is pictured on the cover of the new album. Not an easy task, considering Geoff became obsessed with taking pictures of shacks on the last western tour.

Originally, we thought it was somewhere in Saskatchewan, but it turns out it was just outside of Vulcan, Alberta. Can't think of the road number right now.

So, we had to get out and take our picture in front of it. It's the next big tourist attraction for TST fans ( beware of farmer with shotgun ).

The front and back covers of the album were actually taken within 10 km of each other.

Nanton was awesome. Great folks out there. Got some video and audio recordings. Will post later ( Much later...)

Sitting in the Golden Taps right now waiting for some people to show up. Ah, the rock n' roll biz.

Cheers,
Tom
