It's been a good few days on the road. Crowds were sparse in Winnipeg and Brandon, but last night's crowd in Regina was decent.
We spent the night at the luxurious Inn towner Motor Lodge. Cheapest place in town for all you musicians who travel through here.
Although no one came to the show in Winnipeg, the bar owner, Greg , was really cool. He let us crash at his place, which was in this old mansion. It was pretty neat. If anybody reading this knows people in Winnipeg, tell them about our show coming up at Shannon's on Wednesday June 11th.
As I said , the crowd in Brandon was sparse, which is not totally unexpected for a Tuesday night. But at the same time, I have to say it was getting me down a bit. At least, it was, until Travis walked in.
Turns out that Travis is a super fan. He had bought a copy of Never Shed No Tears last time we were through, and it has become one of his favorite albums. He was so excited to see us. His eyes were as big as saucers as he said," Oh my God ! " "Tom Savage !" "This is awesome!".
His enthusiasm sure made my day.
Last night at the Bushwakker, we loaded up on Pale Ale and played some tunes. had a good time. Sold CDs. Got little sleep.
Off to Redcliff.
Cheers,
Tom

The Bear, The Moose, and the open road
Friday night in Terrace Bay went well. It was quite a long drive but we made the gig on time. The folks at the legion were talking about a bear that had been roaming around the parking lot a few hours before. Fortunately (or unfortunately ?) we didn't see it. That news coupled with the paper mill stenchiness in the air let us know we were well into Northern Ontario.
Show went well. Tried to coax people into dancing but they weren't having any of it.
They were having a good time in their laid back, northern style.
Next morning we headed to T-Bay. Along the way , a moose shot out in front of the van, and gave us quite the startle, to say the least. There was actually another in the ditch ready to cross over as well. Amazing animals. But I wouldn't want to get up-close and personal with one( like through the windshield ).
The Apollo show was fun. We spent much of the day hanging with Sheila and Tina, and cooking up a nice veggie stir-fry in the bar's kitchen. Stay tuned for pictures.
It started out that 3 bands were supposed to be on the bill, but turned out we were the only ones that played. The other two bands called the bar at 4:00 to say they were in Winnipeg and wouldn't be able to make it. Then they called back and said they could, but not until 12:30. Then we found out that they were supposed to play Toronto the next night. Crazy.
They did end up stopping by for a bit. But they had a nice 16 -18 hour drive ahead of them so they were soon on their way.
We have the day off today, so we're headed to visit our friend in Dryden, Guy. Monday night we are in Winnipeg. May not get a chance to post this 'til afterwards.
Bye for now,
Tom

And we're off..
The tour kicked with a crawl yesterday afternoon. After saying my goodbyes to the wife and kids and being held up doing last-minute phone interviews,we slowly made our way across a construction-plagued city of Kingston. As we were filling the van up by the 401, I realized the only footwear I brought was a pair of green crocs. Not exactly appropriate for the stage. So we turned around, went all the way back across town, picked up my boots , said goodbyes once again, and we were off.
To encounter the construction-plagued, highways and byways of ontario.
We ended up rolling into Sudbury at around 10:00 P.M.
Crowd was sparse, but seemed to dig what we were doing. Had a nice visit from Pete Aube ( our Kingston jam friend ). He got up and wailed out a few on his harp.
Had a crazy dancer guy putting on a show in front of us. He ended up doing a lap dance for a girl who was celebrating her birthday.
Luke, the sound guy had some crazy microphone for vocals, that I used. It was from the 60's or 70's by the look of it ( not my area of expertise). It sounded pretty good but it was giving me tiny little shocks, intermittently throughout the night, so I have to say it had an effect on my performance. Kind of makes you a little stand-offish...
Right now we are driving from Sudbury to Terrace Bay.Long, long, drive. But after today the drives get a little more reasonable.
That's all for now.
Cheers,
Tom

Learning to Blog
I'm new to this blog thing. So, it may take awhile to get the hang of typing stuff out for people to read at random. I've never kept a journal or anything. I'm more used to writing in a poem format ( writing songs).
What I want this blog to do, is to document the trials and tribulations of an indie band, putting out records, and touring in Canada. Triumphs as well we hope.
So, starting in about 10 days, we are headed off on our Canadian tour, to promote the new album and play 20+ shows. I'll be posting notes about our travels, and the shows we play, etc. Maybe the other guys will post their thoughts as well.
I think I'll bring along the camcorder as well. Add some video later.
I should mention the new album is available online @ http://cdbaby.com/cd/tsavage2
cheers,
Tom Savage
